Inside Out by artist Nancy Chaboun

Beginning in October I was breathless with anticipation of the changing of the leaves of the Ginkgoes lining 2d Avenue North. But I gotta tell ya that this dreary weather has challenged even those elegant fan-like yellow leaves insofar as uplifting my spirit. This morning, however, artist Victor Bokas delivered a painting which makes my heart soar. Clams, Shells & White Flowers (below) has brightened my day; I hope it brightens yours.

The thing about color . . .
It delights me when Canary Gallery is chosen as a venue for a celebration because I know someone creative will bring in a color for decor which miraculously jumps off canvases throughout the Gallery. This color may have never been revealed or obvious, however, adding the hue, whether in a cake, ribbons, table clothes or napkins, calls a variation out of the paintings. A perfect example from this past weekend was an amazing wedding cake by culinary artist Alethea Kendrick Cowie. The blush, ever so slightly in the icing (and linens) softly glowed in every work of art in the Gallery. That’s the thing about color: it brings happiness.

Today the chandelier in the Chandelier Gallery shines brightly for the strong survivors of 9.11
I typically acknowledge an event at Canary Gallery by not lighting the chandelier in the Chandelier Gallery. Today, however, the chandelier is shining as brightly as possible to uplift the survivors of 9.11.
As many of you know, my family are lawyers by trade. One of the cases we continue to protect is that of The 9.11 Widows and Children* as they refer to themselves. The children are no longer children; they are attending college and generally making this world a better place notwithstanding their losses. The Widows continue to make their mark in Congress, organizing Foundations memorializing their losses and creating the most tranquil, lovely gardens in loving memory of their loved ones.
And so, though the Widows and Children are in my heart daily, today, the chandelier shines for them.
